14 April 2001
GIBI and the Margaret Street Church of Christ in Milton, Florida, will be shipping a container to
Guyana, South America on or before 1 May 2001. The container will be filled with some seventy
486-computers, school furniture, various age level school text books, library books, office furniture, baby bed,
baby stroller, church pews, and numerous other things.
During the past few months we have been traveling back and forth across the Southeast picking up
these items and taking them to Milton. We picked up some 50 computers in Lexington, KY. Brother Phil
Owen serviced and packed them for the journey to Guyana. We obtained other computers from Vero
Beach, Cocoa, and Milton, Florida.
Next week (April 3-8) we will be traveling to Sarasota, Florida, to retrieve 20 church pews being
donated by the Central Church in Sarasota. These will be used in the soon-to-be-constructed
Campbellville church building in Georgetown.
The Milton church has been busy getting school textbooks from the county education department.
These are going to be donated to the Ministry of Education in Guyana. They are desperate for the books
and are thrilled we care enough to give them. Milton is also gathering library books. The Ministry of
Home Affairs in Guyana has requested these.
Because of the dedicated work of the Milton brethren, Phil Owen and many others who have
contributed, the Ministries of Education and Home Affairs has obtained a "Duty Free" concession for
GIBI. This is enabling us to get a lot of needed supplies into Guyana without paying a huge duty on them.
We will be shipping dry-erasable boards, office chairs, lecterns, televisions, video recorders,
student tables, chairs and many other items that would have normally cost dearly in duty fees. By helping
the government ministries, they are helping us!
We still need some financial help to get this container to Guyana. It is costing approximately
$5000. If you can assist us with a small contribution we will greatly appreciate it--$5, $10, $25, $50,
$100 or even more will help us a lot. We thank
you in advance for your help. -Jerry
Charles and Dot White left on March 29 for two months in Guyana. Charles will be teaching at
both our Georgetown and Berbice campuses. Charles and Dot are from the Beltline Church of Christ in
Decatur, Alabama. They have been to Guyana before on medical missions but this will be their first trip as
part of the faculty of GIBI. Charles is a retired engineer dedicated to serving the Lord. We appreciate the
willingness of the Whites to help us at GIBI and to Beltline church for sending them.
Normally we recruit new classes each September, but we have decided not to do that with the
Essequibo or Berbice schools. We will recruit classes every two years instead. By doing this we will only
have classes if there is a need.
After living in Prattville, Alabama, for the past year Kyle and Tiffany will soon be moving back to Mt.
Dora, Florida, where they will be making their home while working with GIBI. The Mt. Dora Church of
Christ has assumed their oversight. Kyle was the Youth Minister for the congregation for over 3 years.
They make the move back with a brand new baby girl-- Kathryn Bliss Cantrell. She was born on March
5.
After two months in Mt. Dora Kyle, Tiffany and Bliss will make a second move to Georgetown,
Guyana, May 31st. They will be in Georgetown until November.
Shawn Clarke is a 25-year-old graduate of GIBI. Recently he has become extremely ill with some sort of
kidney problem. GIBI has assisted him financially, spiritually and emotionally through this illness. We
have helped him get to Trinidad for unsuccessful treatment. We were also trying to help him come to the
USA for additional treatments, but the US Embassy in Georgetown would not give him a visa.
We are thankful to Doctors Frank Sutton and Bob Walker who offered services to this young man.
Shawn needs your prayers. At this point we do not know what to do. Your prayers are very much
needed!
GIBI is in need of Bible reference books for our library.
We need commentaries, dictionaries, concordances, topical books, and any
others biblical books that can be used by our students.
If you have any of these books that you would like to
donate, please let us know. If you have too many to mail we will make arrangements to come and
get them.
With three campuses the need for books is great. These books cannot
be bought in Guyana. The only way we can stock our library is
through your donations. We do appreciate your help!
The Ruimveldt church in Georgetown has completed construction of their new facility and are
proudly worshiping there every Sunday. Since moving into the building their attendance has
increased remarkably.
Chris DeCaries serves as the minister for the congregation. Recently Jake and Shelly Hendrix
have moved to Guyana to assist in the work. The Village Church in Hot Springs Village, AR, and
Heritage Place Church in Birmingham, AL, will be conducting a medical mission for the congregation
this summer.

Reading And Writing Classes
GIBI's newest challenge begins this summer in the Sophia squatting area of Georgetown. In
conjunction with the Ministry of Education GIBI will begin teaching reading and writing classes. While we
are helping the people of Guyana the Sophia church will be using this ministry as an outreach to teach the
gospel. Narine Khublall is the local minister.
