Hi Everyone:

Mac and I have now been here one week! But the labor strike against the government is entering its sixth week. Anything that happens here is blamed on the strike. For example, we had several "blackouts" (power outages) last week. We were told it was because the strikers were preventing diesel fuel from getting to the power company. We later learned that the outages were due to equipment failures. But there are some things the strikers are preventing. They have just about shut down all government offices. We were at the Ministry of Finance this past week and our better judgment prevailed to restrict us from trying to enter. Protesters were blocking the entrance. They were NOT violent, but they were determined! The Post Office is closed! Don't send us any mail because we won't get it. Mail has not been delivered in five weeks, but prior to that you could go to the Post Office and retrieve it, but no more!

Partners In Progress have had teams here with no incidences reported with the protesters. A team made up of Christians from Murray, KY, and Conway, AR, left this morning after conducting a successful Medical Mission at the Campbellville church. Twenty-one surrendered their lives to the Lord. There were no problems with the strikers! They were suppose to leave at 6:20AM. It is now 2:00PM! Welcome to Guyana!

Another team from West-Ark in Fort Smith, AR, arrived last night to begin work at Neimes tomorrow. As far as we know, neither team was delayed or hindered at the airport. (I have just learned Conway is still at the airport, but it is due to mechanical problems with the airplane, not strikers!) I mention all this for the benefit of any who may be coming down, have heard of the problems, and wonder if it is safe! Right now it is safe! We just use wisdom to stay away from the problem areas.

Today's (Sunday) newspaper was encouraging, quoting both sides as saying they believe a quick end to the strikes could be just around the corner. Only time will tell. If not, the Lord's work continues on!

Thursday we will be going up country to inspect a house for the possibility of starting an "Extension School." We are pretty excited about this. Please be praying about it. We really do hope it is going to work out.

Most of next week will be occupied with setting things in order for the crusades at Ruimveldt and Kitty. A total of 50 people will be participating. Please keep them in your prayers as well.

We love you,

Jerry & Mac
