Hi Everyone:

It is that time again - our return to Guyana! We are in the last 3 days of our USA stay. We have traveled extensively since we returned to the US on March 25. In fact, we have just returned from Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. I have preached almost every Sunday from March until now, making presentations to numerous churches about the work in Guyana. But now it is time to get back to a very busy schedule in Guyana.

During the summer many crusade groups, medical teams, and campaigners will be in the country. Steve DeLoach of “Partners in Progress” organizes about 10 medical teams, numerous nurturing groups, and this year a summer missionary intern program. Scott Zapalac will be bringing in a medical team in July. And GIBI is assisting a team that will split to serve in two areas. This means a lot of Bible studies will be taught and potentially a lot of people will obey the Lord. That is just a part of the busy summer!

GIBI also has some aggressive plans that we will be working on while we are there. Our first Satellite School is up and going at Enmore. We are supplying the equipment and materials and the local preacher, Kenneth Finlayson, is leading the class. Twenty-nine Christians are enrolled and attending the classes.

We will be visiting in the Correntyne area to investigate the possibility of starting an “Extension School.” This is too far for students to commute to Georgetown to attend the main campus school. There are new churches being established all the time in the Correntyne area and few of the preachers are being trained. We believe a school would serve a worthy purpose there. There is also the possibility of drawing some students from Suriname to the Extension School, but only a slight possibility!

Mac and I will be making a stop in Antigua on our way to Guyana. I will be preaching and teaching for the church there on Sunday, May 30th. I am grateful for the opportunity to visit and serve this congregation.

GIBI students have just one month of classes left before starting their field work. They finish the end of June then spend July and August assisting the many crusades in the country. GIBI graduates seven students on September 4th. All are men. Three will be returning to their homes in the Northwest Territory, one returning to New Amsterdam, two to the East Coast Demerara, and one will remain in Georgetown.

We are vigorously recruiting students for the class of 2001. With more than 80 churches in the country and just 49 full-time preachers to serve them we desperately need as many students as we can recruit. We need mature dedicated men! Please put this high on your prayer list!

We want to thank all of you for your continued support of GIBI and the work in Guyana. We are grateful for your dedication, commitment and consistency. You are a vital part of this ministry. Without you there is no GIBI, Guyana Missions, or the successes these works are producing. The elders of the Central church in Cocoa and myself thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support both financially and spiritually. We pray that the Lord’s richest blessings fall on you.

We should have a lot to report to you when we return the end of June. We are coming home then because I am scheduled for knee replacement surgery on July 27. I begin my pre-op then after we return. Please remember me during this surgery and the rehab that follows.

God bless,

Jerry & Mac
