Satellite School Begins at Enmore

After months of planning and prayer Guyana International Bible Institute has finally launched its first Satellite School. The church of choice was at Enmore Village on the East Coast of Demerara. They were the church of choice due to several very important reasons. Enmore church

  1. Because of the age of the congregation.
It started in May '87 with five members in attendance and an initial contribution of 25 cents. Today they average between 100 - 125, with a contribution of $70 a week. They conduct weekly ladies' classes and men’s training classes. They are a congregation eager to learn.

  2. Because they have the facility to house such a school.
Enmore church building Last summer they moved into a new building, even though it was unfinished. In fact, the building is still unfinished, but is very adequate for these classes. The membership is working almost every week attempting to complete the concrete floor in their auditorium, finishing up classrooms, and numerous other projects in the building.

  3. Because of the local minister and his family.
Kenneth & Samantha Finlayson Kenneth Finlayson grew up in Enmore and was its first convert. He attended Guyana International Bible Institute and graduated with honors. He was the salutatorian of his class and voted "Best Improved Student" by the faculty. After beginning his full time ministry at Enmore, Kenneth was successful in converting his mother, one sister, two brothers, and a cousin to Christianity from the Hindu religion. His wife Samantha was raised in a Christian family in America, attended and graduated from International Bible College in Florence, Alabama, in 1989. Three years later she moved to Guyana and began working at Safe Place (a shelter for abused women). Samantha and Kenneth have been married for 5 1/2 years and have two children, Jonathan and Emma.

  4. Because there could soon be a Children’s Home in the Enmore area.
All of these factors are very positive when it comes to the success of the Satellite School.

  5. Because it is strategically located between congregations.
Enmore Bible school 29 students from Enmore signed up to take the first course on "The Life of Christ," and students from two other congregations, Buxton and Melanie, could soon join the group.

Soon we hope to be announcing the start of other schools. Kwakwani has expressed an interest in a school, as well as Ann’s Grove, Linden, and New Amsterdam.

These schools could help answer the major problem of "immaturity" among the young Christians and churches in Guyana.
