A crusade with the Melbourne, Florida, church, in the village of "Triumph," concluded this past
Friday evening, April 4, 1997. Participants from several Florida cities and the state of Texas
were involved in the ten-day door-to-door campaigning and Gospel Meeting. Boyd Williams of
Vero Beach, Florida, Larry Cline of Holly Hill, Florida, and Jerry Cantrell, the director of the
School of Biblical Studies-Georgetown, shared in the nightly preaching. The meeting was well
attended with a high being reached on Friday of 317. Attendance reached 300 a couple of times
during the ten-day meeting.
Ten beautiful people obeyed their Lord and put Him on by being immersed. One who was
baptized was a burn victim who had suffered burns over a large portion of her body. She risks
possible severe infection by being baptized in very unsanitary conditions, but her commitment to
her Lord far exceeded the dangers involved.
The church in Triumph was established less than two years ago by a similar effort of the
Melbourne church. The church meets under the house of one of the members who was
converted during that first crusade. Brian Fiedtkou is the local minister and the #1 graduate of
the School of Biblical Studies. He is doing a good job with the church. Please continue to pray
for the success of this young church.
As we write another campaign is being conducted across the coast at New Amsterdam. This
effort is under the direction of Jerry Davidson and the Fairhope, Alabama, church. We hope to
have a report on this effort in a few days.
A campaign was conducted in the community of "Industry" a few weeks ago, by the Greenville,
Alabama, church, and Charles Box, which resulted in the establishment of a new congregation.
Several precious souls committed their lives to Jesus and were buried in baptism to be cleansed
by His blood. The congregation has already secured a meeting place and attendance is averaging
in the high fifties. Bruce House is the local minister and is doing a good job with the church.
The School of Biblical Studies started the Spring Quarter on March 24. We lost two students
during the break and the start of the session. One moved to the States and the other is pregnant.
Needless to say, she is one of our female students and newly married. We still have a fine group
of students and anticipate graduating 16 in September. Twelve of these are men, all of whom
plan to preach.
We are now beginning to recruit new students for the start of school in mid-September. We ask
local congregations to recommend men and women from their congregations who have a strong
desire to serve the Lord and who are exceptional examples of Christianity to be considered for
enrollment. This process will continue until late June.
This is most of the updated news from Guyana. As events unfold and results are reported we
will pass them along. Keep us in your prayers.
