For the past three weeks Mac and I have participated in congregational anniversaries or dedications. Three weeks ago we crossed the Demerara River to visit with the brethren at Poudryen and be a part of the 6th anniversary of the establishment of their congregation. Gerald Demendonca, their local minister, challenged the congregation by rehearsing the history of the congregation and encouraging them to improve in the future. One of the improvements is a plan for Gerald and Pam, his wife, to move to Poudryen.

The following week I preached for the church in Grove, then drove across the East Coast for a 3:00PM worship service with the Enmore church. The Enmore church began ten (10) years ago on May 3, 1987. The first service held in Enmore had an attendance of approximately 100 people. This was due to many brethren from North Road in Georgetown coming out to assist them. Enmore is about 30 miles from G'town. Their first contribution was $250 Guyanese dollars (approximately $1.80 US). After the initial meeting, attendance ranged between 3 and 10. The church met in the home of the Finlaysons. Kenneth Finlayson was the only convert in Enmore for some time. Contributions averaged about $25 G ($.18 US) a week. Parmanan Kissoon was the first minister for the church. He had left the Assembly of God in Enmore, attended the School of Biblical Studies, and was now back preaching for the church. Since then the church has grown to over 100 members. Kenneth Finlayson later attended SBS and returned to be the local minister. The weekly contribution now averages $9000 G (approximately $65 US) weekly. The church has purchased two (2) lots on which they have started construction of an auditorium and classrooms. They are receiving financial help with the building, but they purchased the lots themselves. Approximately 150+ people gathered on the property of the church to celebrate 10 years of work and to dedicate the work on the new building. It was exciting to see how the people committed themselves to the Lord and to His work in Enmore.
