RETURN TO GUYANA

April/May 1999

We're back in the sunshine and breezes. OH, it is good to be here!!

We returned to Guyana on April 26th. Steve Parkhurst, from Oklahoma, traveled with us and was a great help! He spent a week here working with a congregation in Ann's Grove. He was so much help to us traveling that we've requested for him to be here to travel back with us in September on our return to the States. haha

Isaiah really did pretty good traveling. He was restless and couldn't be still, but didn't cry a LOT. Most of his "fussing" was when we were on the plane, waiting for take-off. It is so hot on the plane then. We encountered a few rather "rude" people. One woman "huffed" and said "OH, NO" with the first wimper from Isaiah. Then she puts on headphones and begins to sing out Isaiah on 4 April 1999 loud! Oh yes. But anyway, in my opinion it was her loss that she didn't find the joy of talking to him.

And Isaiah is certainly a joy! He seems to feel better every day. He keeps us running!!!!!! I'm glad I have the girls to help out.

One of the girls who worked in the Children's Home where Isaiah was last year, has been coming by to see him. Her name is Allison. She worked there when Isaiah first went into the home. She has a special love for him and I am convinced that God used her to keep him alive for us. She would hold him, feed him and love on him when no one else wanted to spend the time with him. I am so glad she comes over now to see him.

On a little sadder note, we've had to say good-bye to some friends we've grown close to over the past three years. The Currans were not only the hotel managers we dealt with, but also very dear friends. They were transfered to Cairo, Egypt. Karen Curran is the one who got us in contact with the Children's Home when we were looking to adopt.

We went to a reception for the Currans the day before they left. We were very honored to be there. There were several government people attending. We met the Prime Minister, for whom Brooke's boyfriend is a bodyguard. We also met the Speaker of the House and numerous other friends of the Currans. They were highly respected here in Guyana. The new manager is from France and has managed several hotels in many other places. We've had some very nice meetings with him and look forward to our business with him this summer.

Our family is doing well. We're settled in. We've had several problems to deal with. None that are just horribly outstanding, but several time-consumers. We fight wood ants here at home that literally appear over-night. One morning I checked on Isaiah and there was a trail of the "little pests" down the wall next to his pillow. YUK!!! Then we have our "thorn in the side" water pump. We have had water pump troubles since 1992, our first year here. We're also having computer trouble. I have enough computer trouble without the computer being the problem. Our Trooper is running its last few miles. It's been a good one! Hopefully, we'll be getting duty-free concession on a vehicle soon. Brooke, Colleen and Isaiah on Mother's Day

But over-all, things are great! We've gotten to be back with our Guyanese friends. We've gotten to help work out a property deal with one of the congregations. Our "extra kid" André Browne spends Sundays with us. We were back in time to celebrate Wayne Forde's birthday. (That's Brooke's boyfriend.) I enjoyed a wonderful Mother's Day. Steve and the kids showered me with love and gifts.

We're looking forward to a great summer. Hopefully we'll be able to keep the Web site up-dated with pictures. So KEEP CHECKING!!!

Love,
Colleen
