Isaiah's Accident
May 18, 1999

On Friday, May 14th Isaiah had an accident! He was running down the hall (the boy never walks ... he has to RUN everywhere) and fell. He knocked out his top front tooth! It just popped out, root and all. I'm so thankful he didn't break it off and it have to be extracted. He cried and cried for about 25 minutes while we tried to stop the bleeding, etc. Then he was up and RUNNING again!!!! He kept pushing his tongue up where the tooth had been. Then one time he pointed to it and said, "gone." Bless his little heart ... he has been through so much!

It was interesting during all the turmoil to see how different personalities respond. All 3 of the girls were pretty close by when it happened. I heard them screaming, "Mom, he knocked out a tooth!" So here I came ... ... ... ... I grabbed him up and sat on my bed with the fan on us (it was HOT and he was screaming!). Erin was just PANICKED! I pretty much just had to get her in my face and tell her it was going to be ok. Brooke was sobbing, but still able to think clearly and help me out. She got a wash cloth with the good drinking water on it and got him some Tylenol. But she just couldn't quit crying. Meagan was pacing up and down the hall with her hands on her head. She'd stop by and peep in the room, then just pace some more. Steve was at his office and we called him after it all settled down. I was ok during the crisis, but then had my cry after it was over.

We could tell his mouth was sore for about a day. But he's back to eating what he wants now. He just looks so different. He's still CUTE, though!!!!! Just look at these pictures!!!!!!!!!!!! And he STILL runs and climbs.

I am so thankful that it wasn't worse than it was. I'm glad he didn't split his mouth, like his sister, Erin, did when she knocked out her front tooth at about his age. Yes, I had another one of my children do this before. As Meagan said, "Now half my kids have knocked out a front tooth!" I must look like a hockey coach instead of a mother!!

As always, we appreciate your love and prayers.

Love,
Colleen
